Whitefish, Montana stop goes off!

We powered the 6-hour drive from Bozeman to Whitefish with ease. Sean, the RV master and comedy relief kept the pedal to the metal and zoomed us into the base area at the resort just in time for the on snow celebration of “The Winter Carnival”. Both Dylan Alito and Will Jackways entered the rail jam that night. Dylan laid down some crowd-pleasing tricks like a front flip on the manual pad to board slide the down box. He then followed that up a one-footer judo off the manual pad. Dylan earned 3rd place and took home some swag. Following the awards, a mega fireworks display light up the sky and snow. Maybe even closer than we expected, it seemed like the fireworks were only 20 feet above our heads.

It was only an hour later; Kandi Coded took to the stage and blew away the packed house. With a sweaty group of energetic moshers in the crowd, ASG came on and turned the Biersutbe upside down! It was on the most rocking shows yet. As, Jamie Lynn put it, “that was a mosh pit of love!" From there we found ourselves with ringing ears and need for rest. We mounted up the next morning to meet up with Jason, Brum and Brown for a tour of the mountain. With little new snow, the boys took us on a run off the back of the mountain to milk what was left of the fresh snow. With another 300 miles ahead of us before tonight's show in Spokane, we set the GPS and turned on the Super bowl; with all Saint fans in the RV there was some excitement to see the underdogs take it! Thanks for the good times Whitefish!

Rolling thru the Rockies!

The Blizzard continues to cover the Rockies. As we’ve said, goodbye to a few and welcomed aboard others. We now find ourselves on the road in Montana after a gracious visit to Utah and Wyoming. With a schedule that consists of; ride by day, rock by night, our living quarters in the RV are accruing a special significant odor. Pretty sure the youngest, Dylan Alito forgot to shower last week. Each day we take in some new sights from the road, great views from the lifts and better memories from the shred. Our crew is hyped and the bands sound tight. We’ve had great support from our friends at Brighton, Jackson Hole and Big Sky. The riding has been all time, we’ve found it, from pow to park and day to night. It’s non-stop. Seth Huot and Scott Stevens said their goodbyes in SLC. New Zealander, Will Jackways jumped onboard. With Gigi Ruf, Jake Price and Vernon Deck jumped off the tour in Jackson. Also, Luke Mitrani and Wille Yli-Luoma joined us for a quick 48 hours in Jackson. Will, Dylan, Neil and myself are riding this one out! Next stop, Whitefish. Thank you guys!

The Blizzard Continues On; Vail, SLC and Jackson Hole Recap

Wow the road has been so great. Amazing scenery, snow and shows as we've been blazing in and out of towns and across mountains. After the crazy Denver show we headed up the canyon and headed to Glenwood Springs for our day off, there was a killer hot springs there we swam in and had a backdrop that was unreal.

Jack Endino went on a killer walk along the river while we soaked our bones and afterwards we met up and had a killer dinner and beers as we watched the X-Games superjump finals. Before long a polka band set up and started playing and a dance and drink party ensued. Hours later we crawled back to our hotel and hit the pillows to get ready for a big day at Vail.

Arriving at Vail was badass, it's such a beautiful place. After checking in a bunch of the dudes hit the slopes for some pre show fun. The gig in Vail was dedicated to a fallen local named Jesse, and we were all honored to be a part of it. The Sandbar was packed in no time and once Kandi Coded hit the stage everyone went nuts. Security tried to throw GiGi out 3 times! Friends and family of Jesse had a raffle to raise funds and the crowd was stoked with some great prizes, and then ASG brought the roof down with a full pit going in front of the stage and drinks flying everywhere! We hung out with a lot of the locals that night and stood outside the bus watching the snow fall with a full moon lighting the sky... so incredible.

The next morning we took off on a long drive to Salt Lake City, and it was a crazy scenic drive across the vast Utah desert. So many awesome memories from down there, Lake Powell, Goblin Valley, Moab. I used to spend every weekend in those places, parked on a slickrock mountain sleeping in the back of my truck. Sure brought back some good vibes. We arrived in SLC pretty late and crashed at my buddy "Glow Dough" Jeff's house. He makes that glow in the dark snot stuff in toy stores and is one of the guys who showed me the best great 4 wheelin' and camping spots. Jeff rules and he and his wife totally took care of us. We crashed on the floor in the basement under a monster sized tv and fell asleep watching movies.

The next day we hit the best food spot in SLC, the Red Iguana and met up with another killer dude named DB. He took me in like one of his own kids when I lived in Utah and was a young terror. I'm forever grateful to him and his family.

It was a great hang and Kandi Coded was blown away by the badass food. After that great lunch we loaded into the venue and rocked SLC. We gave away a autographed snowboard and the bands shredded. I met 3 kids and their mom who drove over 2 hours to be at the show. How cool is that? Rock future! We loaded their car full of Volcom goodies and music for their drive home! Also tonight was ASG's merch cat, Andrew's birthday, so he got pretty destroyed. We had a killer time, which was only heightened by the excitement that had been mounting for the next day when we get to Jackson Hole.

We hammered down out of Utah full steam ahead for Jackson Hole, WY amped and ready for the following morning. We always have the best time at the Mangy Moose, the shows totally go off and we have a bunch of great friends here, not to mention, it has been puking snow and we were all so pumped to ride. The Hole is steep and fast, 5000 feet at the base of the mountain and another 5000 feet to the top of the tram. Gnarly! We drove into Jackson Hole in a blizzard, totally stoked. We had to bust into 4 wheel drive to park at the stairs to load in at the Moose. Everyone was giddy with laughter as the snow fell all night. As expected, the Moose was instantly packed and was standing room only by the time Kandi Coded went on stage. It was brutal getting around the bar or up the stairs to the balcony, people were mashed into every corner!

Kandi Coded busted loose into their set and the place erupted. Chicks dancing and jumping around, dudes slamming and headbanging and GiGi and the snow team completely out of control. I had beer spilled on my camera over and over, it was an all time rowdy rock show and the band totally went off. The guys played a ton of new music from "Fell for the Gift" (the record dropped this week) and again pulled out their Faction cover as well as performing "Drive On" by Johnny Cash!

After a break to clean up the broken glass and order up another round, ASG came out on stage covering a minute of Pink Floyd and then straight into their furious blend of heavy ass rock and metal. Lots of songs from Win Us Over, Feeling Good Is Good Enough, and the new EP, Low Country, as well as some older heavy jams. They have been also playing a Queens of the Stonage cover that is completely insane. Best come out and see it now ya hear!

After the total blowout at the Moose we headed to crash at Travis Rice's house. Halfway there a few elk crossed the road right in front of us and we even saw a buffalo eating a freaking tree on the side of the road today. We got halfway up Travis' driveway on the mountain and started to slide backwards in the Beast, it was hairy. I had to put it in reverse and with Jamie as my eyes we backed down the driveway winding down and around with a ton of band gear in the back, all the way back down and we hiked up to the house. Travis' house is out of control. There were beds for everyone, 2 headed shower, sauna, pool table, we stayed up until 6am goofing off playing pool and watching movies. It was sorely needed relaxing downtime. Even Endino took down some Patron shots! Thanks so much Travis!

The next morning Jamie woke me up and said "You ready?" Hell yes I was. We loaded up the Beast and drove to the Volcom bus parked right by the tram and suited up, pounded coffee and we all hit the hill for a mental day of riding powder. Best day I've had in years. Gooch took us to the top of the Tetons and it took us all day to get down. I got buried twice to my neck and had to dig out, but I had a total heart stopper moment: after dropping through this canyon pet some cliff drops I was cutting through some trees and the snow beneath me just fell away and I started to drop. It was like a huge air pocket next to this tree, and I dropped right into it and I stopped falling about 6 feet down when my board landed on the branches of the tree, and I was in this hole and below my board was darkness. I have no idea how far down it went but not sure if I ever would have made it out. I held onto the tree with one hand and unbuckled my bindings with the other and climbed the tree to the surface, threw my board out and jumped to solid ground. Totally heavy. I was seeing stars, heart racing. Glad to be laying here in bed in Jackson Hole tonight typing this blog happy, healthy and ready for more after an unreal day on a brutal and fullfilling mountain.

Tomorrow we get up and hit breakfast and then we jam to Bozeman, MT for another gig night on Blizzard Bizarre, and then another show and some more riding in Whitefish, MT the following day... hope to see you there, viva la noise!

Logging in Beaver Creek!

Moving west through the Rockies we hit up Beaver Creek for another day on hill. Our local contact Eric Warble hooked us up with the "Wookie". "Wookie", is a Colorado legend. He is a log master, visionary on log riding and motivator to his scholars. We also hit up Chad at One Track Mind board shop to give us up with a tour, he was out the door. After convincing his boss that he could hook up Volcom Pros, Gigi Ruf, Seth Huot and AM Dylan Alito. As we headed to the lifts, another group joined. Benny, a Volcom Flow rider from Colorado and his crew added to the heard. With only a couple hours to ride, "Wookie" took us too some gems. The log riding in BC is next level. These guys are serious and everyone step too some of the large logs on the hill. We posted up at this X style log that allow for a wide range of variations to go down. Enough type, check the hype!

Afternoon session in Breckenridge

After a few nights of city life in Denver. And more importantly the High on Fire, ASG and Kandi Coded show. We loaded up the RV and headed into the mountains. A much needed breathe of fresh air and an afternoon session on this ledge the boys found. Seth Huot, Scott Stevens, Dylan Alito and Gigi Ruf teamed up to bungee and drive into this solid feature. We are off to Vail for the next stop of the tour. See you there!

Marquis Theater in Denver was Insane!

Holy moly! Where do I even start about the complete mayhem last night?

Denver you totally out did yourselves... What an amazing night. We loaded into the Marquis Theater in the afternoon-a killer venue with an amazing staff and a very intimate stage-and immediately everyone started getting giddy. Maybe it was because High On Fire was joining us, or maybe it was because the show was free, or maybe it was that the SIA tradeshow was down the street, or maybe everything.

Spirits were high and the good vibes were flowing. We went through the soundchecks; this big soundsystem was going to do the bands justice. It was nice and loud! Before long I had to sneak away to Safeway for a king's ransom in munchies, beer, whiskey, wine, veggie trays, too much to even remember, and stuffed the dressing room with it all.

As soon as the doors opened fans came flowing in like a flash flood. The room was already packed to the gills for the first performance of the night from Kandi Coded. No one in the house wasted any time getting rowdy. Kandi Coded played a ton of selections from thier upcoming new record "Fell for the Gift" coming out next Tuesday, and they even blazed sick DI and Faction covers! Sharing and swapping vocal duties, guitarists Jamie Lynn and Jack Endino both bring their own vibe to the mic, creating a unique flow and movement to Kandi Coded's set.

By the time ASG hit the stage the fans were ready, having been properly warmed up by Kandi Coded, fists were pumping and sweat was dripping. It has been a while since ASG has played in the Rockies, so they had quite the posse waiting for them and they went crazy for their entire set, that included songs from all their records and even a Queens of the Stoneage cover!!?? So insane!!

I have been waiting awhile to see an ASG show, and it was really nice to get my tank refilled. ASG sounded better than I have ever heard them before. I'm really excited that they will be recording a new record this year!

Once ASG left the stage, the stuffed venue only had a few minutes to recover before the brutalness of High On Fire was about to assault them. Before long, the stage went dark and the crowd roared as they walked out and immediately busted into a frantic out of control set. They must have played their entire catalog as well as giving the fans a taste of the new songs from their upcoming album, Snakes for the Divine.

I thought High On Fire were loud at soundcheck, but the performance was beyond gut rumbling. The kids started getting rowdy and before long they were floating around the room, jumping and thrashing until dudes started falling over the monitors and onto the stage, only to be launched right back out into the crowd again. At one point there were bar stools surfing the crowd around the room. It was crazy. A proper and massive sonic assault.

After High On Fire finished melting everyones faces off, I headed out front and watched people leaving with one shoe gone, both shoes gone, one sock on, shirt gone, even pants gone. And it was cold as hell in Denver last night!

Following load out, the afterglow commenced and the good times lasted until 6am or so when I had to get up to drive High On Fire to the airport.

We had a fun van ride full of laughs even though everyone was pretty beat. I can't personally thank High On Fire enough for the epic show, great vibes and amazing times. Those guys are true blue to the core, and the very best of people. Big love to you HOF!

After the airport runs I handed the van off to ASG so they could head to Vail, and I jumped in the truck lovingly named "The Beast" and headed to the SIA tradeshow in downtown Denver to pick up the guys in Kandi Coded so we could head to Vail ourselves.

Feeling pretty wounded now as we navigate the Rockies, I think everyone looking forward to a day off tomorrow. The Kandi Coded dudes and I are going to go swimming in some hot springs, drink some beers, shoot some video and burn some steam. Sunday night we play in Vail at the Sandbar, so if you're in the area come out and get Blizzard Bizarre!!

Volcom Store Boulder Madness!

The Volcom Store performance in Boulder went off! Flo was screening custom Volcom hats for all the fans underneath the VolcomEnt tent on the front sidewalk, causing the store to be awash in sea of hats! Ha.

The snow team was out in force, that lucky guy below, Joe Wingate, won a sick custom Volcom snowboard by Twittering a pic of himself with Gigi! You never know what can happen on Blizzard Bizarre Tour.

It started dumping snow when the music started and it sure made it feel like a snow tour. ASG and Kandi Coded totally blew out the packed store, it was unreal. Each band played a few songs to tantalize the crowd in advance of tomorrow nights free blowout with High on Fire at the Marquis Theatre in Denver. Kandi Coded even played a sick Faction cover!

We drove to Denver right after the show to get settled into our hotel, and now Jack Endino and I are about to head to the airport to pick up High on Fire! Stoked to see those guys and catch up after hanging with them on Adult Swim tour last year with Mastodon.

Got to get moving now and get back here asap for beers. See you at the Marquee Theatre downtown Denver tonight
