Photos/Recap: Volcom Tour 2010 w/Mastodon, BTBM, Baroness and Valient Thorr @ Busters in Lexington, KY
"Valient Thorr were up first. I don't know anything that they played for sure except "Mask of Sanity," "Double Crossed," and "Tomorrow Police." They dedicated "Tomorrow Police" to Dio - "a man who lived for rock n' roll, which is how you'd ought to live" - which was nice.
Baroness were up next, and played arguably the best set of the night. I was psyched to get The Gnashing instead of War, Wisdom, & Rhyme, but I still would have liked more from Red Album and maybe even something off the EPs." - read the entire recap w/set lists on metalsetlists.com

Valient Thorr - They came on at 6:30, the time it was supposed to start (A metal show starting on time, no fucking way!) They're not a metal band, more hard rock, but still very good!" - read the entire recap on garagemetal468.blogspot.com

A Volcom Tour Birthday!
We just had a Birthday blowout on the tour for Summer from Baroness, the celebration was epic with all the bands & crew on stage doing shots while the rowdy sold out crowd sang Happy Birthday, and even had "my little pony" flashing on the video screen! Legendary!
The party then moved to the fully decorated dressing room for beers, cake and blowing out the candles, and then continued long into the night!
Summer: "This was the best Birthday I have ever had!!" Hell yeah!! Happy Birthday Summer!!!

"We kicked off our summer live music season tonight (last night). We try to get in one decent show a month from May-ish, until school starts again. That may not sound like much to many, but with kids and many other obligations, it's more than challenging.
Valient Thorr kicked it off (they're the only reason I found this show in the first place). If live rock is your thing, find this band. Now." - read the entire recap on audiokarma.org
Recap: Volcom Tour 2010 - Mastodon Cracks the Skye Over Lawrence, KS - lostinreviews.com
"I got a chance to go check out the 2010 Volcom Tour this last Sunday as it stopped over in Lawrence, Kansas to let this year’s bands tear the roof off of Liberty Hall. Though, in the past, the Volcom-sponsored tour seemed to focus on Punk Rock bands and skateboarding, this year’s tour was all Metal – and not just any Metal. This year Volcom lined up three of the nation’s top Progressive Metal bands. Baroness, Between the Buried and Me, and Mastodon, anchored the show and Valient Thorr – a lesser known band, but one that can lay claim to one of the biggest cult followings in Metal Music – opened and got the crowd primed for what was to come.
What was coming you ask? One of the most enjoyable Metal shows I’ve ever attended and the most epic beards I’ve ever seen together in one place." - continue reading the entire recap on lostinreviews.com
Killer write up Ian, glad you had such a good time!
Video/Recap: Volcom Tour 2010 w/Mastodon, BTBAM, Baroness and Valient Thorr @ Liberty Hall in Lawrence, KS - Worst.Music.Blog.Ever
"Early yesterday morning Ronnie James Dio passed away, I didn't hear the news until I was off work, and getting ready to go to the Mastodon concert. As unpleasant and saddening as the news was, I couldn't help but feel optimistic for the show, and I think that might have something to do with the respect the man commanded. Everyone at that show understood the weight of his death on the metal world, and I believe everyone knew that he would have wanted all metal-heads to celebrate his life and love for metal as loud as possible. RIP Ronnie.
My friends and I entered Liberty hall shortly after 6 p.m. and the news had obviously spread quickly as Dio was being played on the house PA system. We took a more different approach for this show and decided to enjoy the show from the balcony because quite frankly, we're getting too old to be 'in the shit'. We took our seats (in the most uncomfortable seats ever, but that's beside the point) and the lights came down as Valient Thorr took the stage.
I had no expectations for Valient Thorr, easily the least known band, and the only band I didn't care if I happened to miss. I'm glad I was there for them though, as they were probably one of the most fun bands I've ever seen..." continue reading the entire recap w/set lists on worstmusicblogever.blogspot.com
