"To say that I was shocked to see the Mastodon tour coming through Lexington, Ky., is an understatement. But it happened. I was there. And what’s more, it was a great success." - full story and photos on buzzgrinder.com

Photos/Recap: Volcom Tour 2010 w/Mastodon, BTBM, Baroness and Valient Thorr @ Busters in Lexington, KY

...more photos on forums.phishhook.com

"Valient Thorr were up first. I don't know anything that they played for sure except "Mask of Sanity," "Double Crossed," and "Tomorrow Police." They dedicated "Tomorrow Police" to Dio - "a man who lived for rock n' roll, which is how you'd ought to live" - which was nice.

Baroness were up next, and played arguably the best set of the night. I was psyched to get The Gnashing instead of War, Wisdom, & Rhyme, but I still would have liked more from Red Album and maybe even something off the EPs." - read the entire recap w/set lists on metalsetlists.com

Memphis Flyer previews tonight's Volcom Tour stop in Memphis, TN at Minglewood Hall

"More than hinted at with 2006's major-label debut Blood Mountain, Mastodon are not just influenced by progressive rock and metal (past and present), they are creating their own sub-genre of it. The name of their latest album, Crack the Skye, is a tribute to forgotten late-'70s prog-rock oddballs Crack the Sky, masters of the off-kilter but heavy riff. Basically, Mastodon have created an alternative to Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree that's cooler (meaning: less of a female-repellent), more challenging on a sonically experimental level, and, of course, much heavier. But compared to Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon's variation of metal might as well be the one-riff-for-an-entire-album minimalism of Sleep's Jerusalem." - continue reading the entire article on memphisflyer.com

A Volcom Tour Birthday!

We just had a Birthday blowout on the tour for Summer from Baroness, the celebration was epic with all the bands & crew on stage doing shots while the rowdy sold out crowd sang Happy Birthday, and even had "my little pony" flashing on the video screen! Legendary!

The party then moved to the fully decorated dressing room for beers, cake and blowing out the candles, and then continued long into the night!

Summer: "This was the best Birthday I have ever had!!" Hell yeah!! Happy Birthday Summer!!!

Smile Politely previews tonight's Mastodon set on the Volcom Tour 2010 at the Canopy Club in Urbana, IL

"Atlanta's Mastodon is easily the most critically acclaimed metal band of the last decade. They are the metal band that punk rockers, stuffy Brooklynites and modern hippies are all allowed to unabashedly love. With each subsequent album they release, they keep attracting a wider audience, selling almost 500,000 copies of their most recent album (a huge number in the downloading era). But why them? What does Mastodon have that thousands of other heavy metal bands don't? The quick answer is that they seem to have the perfect mix of musical ambition and ability to rock, but the long answer is much more complicated." read the entire article on smilepolitely.com
